Humanity Arise and Overcome the COVID-19 Pandemic
Time has stopped for humanity, and it is our courage and humanity that is put to the test. The dense clouds of doom have overtaken the earth, yet, hope must spring from deep within our hearts to assert that we can overcome. Yes! Together, we can overcome. And because we are in it together, we can heal the world of this ravaging scourge.
As Coronavirus pandemic hits its One Million Plus mark globally, it has no doubt brought the world to a frightening reality: the pandemics’ exponential spike is set to make every nation and tongue a potential host/victim except something is urgently done.
And we can’t wait but rise. The world must arise together and combat a deadly and monstrous spread whose threat must be stopped by all means to avert the tragedy of human extinction.
Being an ever and present danger facing every affected nation on the earth, there is no doubting that COVID-19 global outbreak has the potential of placing the survival of the human species at great and enormous risk of extermination.
For Nigeria, the sobering moment provides a wakeup call for us as a nation and people to summon our minds and consciences to reexamine the depth of our stare policies, to redirect our national concerns and also reorder and get our basic priorities right as governments and institutions.
It is therefore on this frightening note, but more as a need to sound an imminent wakeup call, that 1001+ Voices is joining the rest of well-meaning individuals and organizations all over the world to not only give hope in times of great despair but also raise our support and encouragement in the face of a global courageous march to battle and conquer the raging pandemic.
The challenge no doubt is both arduous and hazardous, with the extreme pressure the pandemic has exerted on our fragile and inadequate health infrastructure as well as trained personnel.
For Nigeria, the sobering moment provides a wakeup call for us as a nation and people to summon our minds and consciences to reexamine the depth of our stare policies, to redirect our national concerns and also reorder and get our basic priorities right as governments and institutions; all for the sake of placing this great nation on the right path, track her enormous potentials and provide better institutions as well as social and economic schemes can best impact in the advantage of our teeming but a beleaguered population.
1001+ Voices like everyone is horrified by the cruel prospects presented by a runaway outbreak of this pandemic, but as the virus spike is evidently threatening to shut down our planet and the whole of humanity, and indeed, greater nations have been levelled down by its mean onslaught: US, UK, Spain, Italy, France, Iran, India, etc., we must adapt, adjust and learn from its harsh lessons.
Much as this has evidently become one of the defining moments in our nation’s history, coming to this critical juncture, the levels or lack of our state of unpreparedness but predictable outcome should guide our nation to be exploited and turned into a national advantage. There should be improved resources and determination to reinvent and reposition our very critical sectors.
Capacity must be effectively seen as being built across and within the substrata of our various institutions. Personnel must be trained and reserves made for times of emergency. Above all, there must be a total turn around and a reorientation in the nation’s leadership values and elite mentality. It is time to invent and invest in time tested values of sacrifice, patriotism, duty and service to our nation.
Lastly, the current experience should indeed, be transformational. Both in the attitude and character of our peoples and nation. Society must for once brace up, sit up, come together and come together toward working a way out. We should strive beyond our present scandal point and move to better our institutions and people.
It is already bad that with the consuming plague spreading outwards with a rapidity that extinct humanity, we must all address our minds to one clear and enduring fact: WE ARE ALL VULNERABLE BEFORE ITS MENACING ONSLAUGHT. But with shared humanity, we can invariably overcome.
It is true, so much would be lost in the end and which we can never regain; but let this not freeze our hearts. We should not lose or surrender our common humanity to contempt or despair. Confronted as we are, we owe our survival to ourselves. And in the midst of these crises, we must find a reason to reassure ourselves. That from here we will move to reclaim a bold brave world, made possible by the level and depths of our sacrifices.
Let us as a people and nation sacrifice for love of humanity.
